Jannik Sinner, the top-ranked Italian tennis player, has announced that he will miss the remainder of the 2026 season due to ongoing issues with his right knee. The announcement follows Sinner's last match, where he secured a victory against Alexander Zverev in the Wimbledon final in July.

Sinner also withdrew from the U.S. Open, citing the knee injury as a significant concern. In a video message on Instagram, he stated, "Me, together with the doctors, have decided that I need a course of treatment for my knee, which means that the 2026 season is officially over. I also need to think about my long-term career so I will do everything possible to get back 100%."
His management team confirmed that Sinner will follow a recommended treatment plan for inflammation in his knee. As he steps away from competition, there is a risk he may lose his No. 1 ranking. The decision to undergo treatment now aims to ensure he has adequate time to recover before beginning preparations for the 2027 season.
