Spain climbed into the top three after winning the Bronze medal in Berlin, marking a notable rise of three places. Germany, the tournament hosts, achieved the most substantial gain in the rankings, moving up seven spots after reaching the Semi-Finals for the first time.
Australia's Quarter-Final exit posed challenges, resulting in a drop behind both Spain and Germany. Belgium also fell in the rankings despite remaining ahead of China, which had a more difficult path to reach the Top 8 in Berlin.
Recent ranking changes can be attributed to several key factors. Teams that did not qualify for the World Cup, including Brazil, Canada, and Serbia, missed chances to earn points, impacting their positions. Brazil, however, played five additional games at the FIBA Women's AmeriCup 2027 South American Qualifiers, which helped them surpass Canada.
Hungary's strong performance advancing to the Quarter-Finals allowed them to move past Türkiye, Czechia, and Mali.
Outside the top 20, Mexico saw significant progress, jumping six spots to 25th after reaching the Women's Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament 2026 final. El Salvador, hosting the FIBA Women's AmeriCup 2027, rose nine places to 42nd, while the Virgin Islands achieved a remarkable 16-place increase following a close Semi-Final loss to Mexico.
This ranking update also introduced three new teams: Guam, the Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau. The FIBA World Ranking Women now includes a total of 118 National Federations.
