Rodríguez, who hails from the Canary Islands, joined Barcelona's youth system at the age of 17 after moving from Tenerife. He progressed through the youth ranks and made his first-team debut in the 2007/08 season. By the summer of 2009, he had signed his first professional contract with the club.
In the 2009/10 season, he made history by becoming the first player to score in all six official competitions contested by Barça: La Liga, Copa del Rey, Champions League, Spanish Super Cup, European Super Cup, and Club World Cup. A highlight of his career occurred on May 28, 2011, when he scored the opening goal in the Champions League final against Manchester United, helping Barça secure a 3-1 victory and their fourth European title.
