Kelsey Mitchell Sets WNBA Scoring Record in Indiana Fever's Victory Over Toronto

Mitchell surpassed the previous record of 1,021 points held by A’ja Wilson from Las Vegas in 2024, bringing her season total to 1,034 points following a third-quarter 3-pointer. Upon entering the Fever locker room, she was surprised to find herself celebrated with confetti, initially believing that the festivities were in honor of coach Stephanie White.

"Then, out of nowhere, everybody started coming my way, and I was like ‘Oh,’ and I put two together that it was for me," Mitchell said of the unexpected celebration.

The game also marked Mitchell's 25th consecutive game scoring at least 20 points, extending her WNBA record. She completed the night with a shooting performance of 12 for 17 and 7 for 11 from beyond the arc.

Teammate Caitlin Clark praised Mitchell's achievements, stating, "I don’t think people realize what she’s done this year and how insane it’s been. It’s probably not talked about enough, especially in my opinion." Mitchell is currently averaging 25 points per game, second only to Wilson's 26.1.

White commended Mitchell’s historic season, noting, "She’s playing at another level and it’s been really incredible to witness. I hope that we don’t take it for granted that what we’re witnessing is some unprecedented stuff."

In her first game back after helping the U.S. secure gold at the women's FIBA World Cup, Clark contributed significantly with 28 points and a season-high of 14 assists. This was the 10th time this season that Clark tallied over 25 points while also dishing out 10 or more assists, a feat that surpasses any other WNBA player’s career total.

With this win, the Fever improved to 27-14, sharing this record with Atlanta as they compete for home-court advantage in the playoffs alongside Las Vegas. "Our goal is to gain homecourt advantage because that is really important, especially in that three-game series," Clark added.
