Euroleague Clubs Reject NBA Proposal for Collaboration

On September 18, during the Euroleague Basketball SuperCup semifinals in Abu Dhabi, Fenerbahce's Will Clyburn attempted to drive past Olympiacos' Tyson Ward.

On October 8, 2026, in Berlin, Panathinaikos owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos emphasized the need for Europe's major basketball clubs to find ways to collaborate with the NBA. His remarks followed an unsuccessful proposal from the NBA for a new continental competition, which was rejected by the continent’s top clubs the previous day.

Sources familiar with the discussions indicated that Euroleague shareholder clubs turned down the NBA's collaboration offer during a recent meeting in Italy. However, they noted that the possibility for a future agreement still remains open.
