Olivia Miles established a new WNBA record for points scored by a rookie in a single season during the Minnesota Lynx's 101-89 win over the Connecticut Sun on Sunday. With 21 points in the game, Miles surpassed Caitlin Clark's previous record of 769 points, achieving this milestone with a free throw in the second quarter.

Prior to the game, Miles was tied with Clark at 769 points. She entered the match averaging 19.7 points, 6.0 assists, and 4.7 rebounds per game, contributing significantly to the Lynx's top record in the league.
“It’s special, but it means we’re more so working well as a team. I have great teammates around me, great vets who allow me to be me out there,” said Miles. She emphasized that the support of her coach and teammates was crucial to her achievement.
In the game against the Sun, Miles shot 7-for-10 from the field and successfully converted all six of her free-throw attempts. Although she did not score in the first quarter, her record-breaking free throw came just 29 seconds into the second quarter. Both Miles and Clark reached their scoring milestones in 40 games.
Earlier in the season, Miles also set records for rookies by making eight 3-pointers in a game against Golden State on June 4, surpassing Clark's previous mark. Additionally, she became the fastest rookie to reach 350 points, 100 rebounds, and 100 assists, accomplishing this in just 21 games, one game faster than Clark and former Charlotte Sting guard Andrea Stinson.
