Both teams had successful starts in the U20 Elite League, winning their opening matches against France and Italy. Germany, under coach Hannes Wolf, has yet to concede a goal this season and finished second in last year’s competition. Max Moerstedt, who took over as captain from Noah Darvich, has been a standout player, scoring three goals across the first two matches. Moerstedt and Mirza Catovic are the only players to have started both games for Germany, which also features promising talents like David Odogu and Mick Schmetgens.
England U20, captained by Mikey Moore, is coming off victories against Italy and France as well. Moore has also been instrumental, scoring in both games. Notably, after the opening matchday, England called up Harrison Armstrong and Trey Nyoni to the U21 squad, moving them from the U20 team.
Germany enters the match riding a six-game winning streak but has struggled against England in previous encounters, having lost the last five meetings. Their most recent victory against England was in 2017 when Maximilian Eggestein netted two goals in the first half.
Predicted lineups for the match include:
Germany U20: Hellstern; Kabar, Schmetgens, Odogu, Bulut; Moreira, Mamuzah Lum, Pinto Pedrosa, Alfa-Ruprecht; Moerstedt (C), Stange.
England U20: Whatmuff; Amass, Heaven, Noble, Sidibe; Fletcher, Rigg; Derry, Moore (C), Lacey; Mheuka.
