Alejandro Davidovich Fokina Wins First Masters 1000 Title at Shanghai

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina achieved his first ATP Masters 1000 title on October 18, 2023, by defeating fellow Spaniard Rafael Jodar in the Shanghai Masters final. After a challenging match, Davidovich Fokina secured the victory with a score of 1-6, 7-6(5), 6-4, completing a remarkable comeback.

Following the win, Davidovich Fokina expressed his disbelief at the achievement, emphasizing his determination throughout the match. He noted, "Today they would have to carry me off the court in a wheelchair to beat me."

Jodar, who was seeking his first Masters 1000 title, acknowledged his effort, stating he was proud of having given his all on the court despite the loss. The final was marked by dramatic points, especially in the second set, which Davidovich Fokina won in a tiebreak.

With this victory, Davidovich Fokina's ranking is expected to rise significantly, reflecting his successful run in the tournament. The event in Shanghai was notable for the surprises it produced, especially with earlier exits of top players like Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz.
