Gael Monfils, the French tennis player, is now designated as a retired athlete by the sport's drug-testing organization. The 40-year-old player had planned to retire at the end of the year, with intentions to conclude his career at the Paris Masters beginning October 31. Prior to that, he was scheduled to compete in a tournament in Lyon, but organizers announced Wednesday that he would not participate due to personal reasons. Although Monfils has not publicly confirmed his retirement, he ended his Grand Slam career with a loss at the U.S. Open in September. Following his tennis career, Monfils will transition to a role in wealth management with a Swiss firm.
