St. Thomas took the lead in the 20th minute when Izzy McEwan headed in a cross from Kalli Knowles. North Dakota State equalized in the 30th minute, as Gabrielle Garrett assisted Hannah Arnold, who volleyed the ball into the net.
However, St. Thomas quickly regained the lead in the 32nd minute with an unassisted goal from Knowles following a failed clearance. The Tommies went into halftime with a 2-1 advantage, and neither team scored in the second half.
Despite several attempts for an equalizer, the Bison’s efforts were thwarted, with goalkeeper Payton Mulberry making three saves in the second half to keep the game within reach.
Both teams recorded 11 total shots, while North Dakota State had a slight edge in corner kicks, 5-4. The Bison will compete again on Sunday, October 11, against Omaha, with kickoff set for 1 p.m. at Dacotah Field.
