Toni Nadal believes that his nephew, Rafael Nadal, could become the captain of the Spanish Davis Cup team in the future. In an interview with RadioEstadio Noche on Onda Cero, Toni expressed his view on why this role might be a good fit for Rafael. "I think — and I insist that this is only a guess — that Rafa will want to become captain of the Spanish Davis Cup team. I don't know when, but I think he would enjoy the role and that it will eventually be his. Besides, Rafa knows how to bring a group together," he said.

Rafael Nadal has been retired since November 2024 and now focuses on his academy in Mallorca and his family.
Toni Nadal also spoke highly of Marc López, who will take over the captaincy from David Ferrer in 2027. He praised López's qualities, recalling his Olympic gold medal in doubles with Rafael Nadal at the 2016 Rio games. "The Davis Cup captaincy is almost a reward that crowns the careers of great players who deserve it. That role should also, in some way, be shared among several of them. Marc López is a wonderful person, he gets along with everyone and knows tennis inside out," he stated.
Additionally, Toni discussed the potential candidates for the fifth player that David Ferrer may select for the upcoming matches in Bologna. "Jódar and Davidovich are both in very good form. Either one of them can be the No. 2 (in singles) of the Spanish Davis Cup team. Davidovich has regained the composure he was missing before. He is a very dangerous player for any opponent," Toni Nadal concluded.
