The event included interactive activities like a dunk contest and a three-point contest, engaging attendees as both teams prepare for competitive play under new leadership. Aaron Jacobs takes the reins of the men's team, while Bruce Williams has been named head coach of the women’s squad.

In his remarks, Williams shared his vision to revitalize the women’s basketball program after a series of challenges in previous seasons. "Rockford women’s basketball hasn’t been what we need it to be over the past few years. But we’re going to change that," he stated.

A key focus for Williams is fostering a strong team culture. "I think it’s all about culture. Everything’s about culture in today’s world, and we’re going to create something where we work hard on and off the court to do something that we love and we want to show others what we’re all about," he added.

Highlighting the significance of in-person support for athletes, Williams remarked, "Sports is still in person, sports is still inspirational. And that’s what we’re going to try to do. We’re gonna try to put a product on the court this year where you leave with a feeling that was inspiring, seeing young women who worked really hard, all for the same goal."

Williams, who has experience building successful initiatives in both athletics and business, expressed his dedication to creating something special within the program. "When you’re all in for the same thing and nobody cares who gets the credit, special things can happen," he noted.

The women’s basketball team is set to play an exhibition game against Rock Valley on October 24, while the men’s team will host William Penn University for their exhibition on October 26.
