The 21-year-old, who hails from Murcia, became the second champion of the Vanda Pharmaceuticals Mallorca Women’s Championships, following Argentina's Solana Sierra, who won the inaugural event in 2025.

The victory is particularly remarkable for Geerlings, as it comes just three months after her return from a serious knee injury that sidelined her for nearly a year. After sustaining the injury in August 2025, her ranking dropped significantly, but she secured a wildcard entry into the Mallorca main draw from the Spanish Tennis Federation.

“This has been a very special tournament for me and I am sure I will be back,” Geerlings remarked after her victory, as reported by WTA.

Tournament ambassador Gabriela Sabatini, a former World No. 3, praised Geerlings for her exceptional performance after such a lengthy absence from competitive tennis.

In her final match against Samson, Geerlings started strong, taking the first set in just over 30 minutes. After exchanging early breaks, she surged ahead to win 6-2. In the second set, although Samson fought back from 0-2 to 2-2, Geerlings broke again to regain control and ultimately clinched the title.

Samson, only 18 years old and currently ranked No. 113, is considered one of the brightest young talents in Czech tennis. She won the Wimbledon girls’ doubles title in 2023 and reached the 2024 Roland-Garros girls’ singles final. Earlier in the tournament, Samson defeated Spanish wildcard Aran Teixido Garcia 6-3, 2-6, 6-3, and progressed through the rounds with wins over French qualifier Lucie Nguyen Tan and Spanish No. 5 seed Andrea Lazaro Garcia, whose match ended in retirement. She advanced to the semifinals, beating Slovenian No. 6 seed Tamara Zidansek.
