The decision comes during Dos Santos's first season at the helm after five years as an assistant with LAFC from 2018 and 2022 to 2025. He took over the head coaching position when Steve Cherundolo stepped down after the 2025 season. The team's performance did not align with the expectations of a club aiming for multiple trophies annually.
Despite having a talented roster that includes World Cup-winning goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, South Korean star Son Heung-min, and former MLS Golden Boot winner Denis Bouanga, the club secured only one win in its last ten matches, resulting in a drop to sixth place in the Western Conference standings. LAFC has six matches remaining in the MLS regular season, starting with a home game against the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday, October 10.
