Borussia Dortmund Attempts Unsuccessful Bid for 17-Year-Old Malik Jakupovic

Borussia Dortmund made a bid for 17-year-old Malik Jakupovic from Philadelphia Union during the recent transfer window, but the offer was rejected, according to MLS insider Jose Roberto Nunez of Philly Voice. Jakupovic is under contract with Philadelphia until 2030, with an option for an additional season.

Standing at 1.91 meters, the center-forward has begun to make his mark in Major League Soccer, scoring one goal and providing one assist in seven matches this season. In the youth league MLS Next Pro, he has scored three goals and registered one assist across 17 appearances. Jakupovic has also been successful with the USA Under-17 national team, netting 12 goals in nine games. Due to his heritage, he is also eligible to represent Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Dortmund has previously recruited youth players from the United States, including Christian Pulisic, who was sold to Chelsea FC for €64 million. Currently, another promising talent at Dortmund is Mathis Albert, who joined from the LA Galaxy academy at age 15. Albert has already made his first-team debut under coach Niko Kovac during the DFB Cup this season.
