Lynch has been leading USC Salkehatchie since 2023 and is notable for being the only publicly gay head coach of a men's college basketball team in the United States, according to OutSports. He came out as gay in 2020, stating his desire to live authentically and not "die with the lie."

Under his leadership, USC Salkehatchie achieved a 24-8 record last season, marking the team's third consecutive season with 20 or more wins. Lynch, originally from Erie, Pennsylvania, previously served as an assistant coach at Chowan University and was on staff at UNC Wilmington, where he progressed from video coordinator to director of men’s basketball operations. He began his coaching career as an assistant at Fort Leboeuf High School in Waterford, Pennsylvania, and has also worked at Edinboro University, Youngstown State, and Miami (Ohio).
