In a joint interview with On's co-CEO David Alleman, broadcast on CNBC, Mbappé expressed gratitude for his time with Nike but emphasized the need for a new direction. "Of course, I had 20 amazing years with Nike, I can only say thanks to them," he said. However, he noted that it was time for evolution, stating, "I have to be part of the family, I have to be part of the project... with On and the football."
Mbappé highlighted the significance of feeling connected to his footwear, explaining, "As a player, you need to feel a special connection with your boot, with the ball, with the pitch, with the evolution of the game." He stressed the demands of modern soccer, which includes playing 60 games a season and intense daily training, underlining the importance of comfort in footwear.
On, established in 2010, is recognized for its innovative running and tennis gear featuring technologies like CloudTec and LightSpray. CloudTec provides cushioning in the midsole, while LightSpray utilizes robotic techniques for creating shoe uppers. Additionally, On announced that retired player Thierry Henry will join as its director of football, and FC Barcelona's Sydney Schertenleib will assist in developing and testing soccer apparel. Highlights of the interview will air on CNBC's "Squawkbox Europe" on Tuesday.
