The match began positively for Germany, with Melissa Kössler scoring two quick goals. The first came in the 23rd minute after a well-executed build-up led to a cross from Carlotta Wamser. Australia defender Ellie Carpenter’s interception inadvertently assisted Kössler, who tapped the ball in at the back post. Kössler’s second goal followed in the 30th minute, a result of a deep pass from Elisa Senß that allowed her to navigate through defenders and finish decisively.
Germany continued to press, although they struggled to convert several opportunities to widen their lead. Just before halftime, Australia managed to score with a header from Sam Kerr, assisted by Carpenter following a quick exchange with Hayley Raso.
The second half saw a more balanced contest. Germany missed key chances to extend their lead, including opportunities by Nicole Anyomi and Linda Dallmann. In the 83rd minute, Camilla Küver scored from a corner, seemingly putting the game out of reach for Australia.
However, Australia quickly responded when Caitlin Foord assisted Holly McNamara, who scored to narrow the deficit to 3-2 with just two minutes left in stoppage time. Yet, Germany sealed their win with Sjoeke Nüsken's goal, a powerful finish from Dallmann’s corner in the dying moments of the match.
The victory highlighted Germany's offensive strengths, and they will next face Japan on October 13th at the Weserstadion in Bremen.
