"Honestly, after winning this title, I felt like finally I once again become the one who is making new history," Zheng said. Her last title victory came in Tokyo in 2024.
Zheng's journey back to the top of the sport has been challenging. After reaching the quarter-finals of Roland-Garros in 2025 as the world No. 7 and finishing as a runner-up at the Australian Open in January 2024, she faced setbacks, including right elbow surgery last July. Following her recovery, she struggled but found her form at the US Open, reaching the quarter-finals after coming through qualifying.
Her success in Beijing was hard-earned, as she faced tough matches, including a quarter-final win over sixth seed Elina Svitolina and a victory against 13th seed Elise Mertens.
Zheng acknowledged the mental and physical challenges she faced during her matches. "There were different moments of toughness. When I was battling my opponents, I was also battling myself," she noted.
Currently ranked world No. 23, Zheng is looking to return to the Top 10 and expressed her determination to achieve her potential. "I'm really happy I made the first steps. For me, there's still more to come. I'm so hungry for what's going to come in the next of my career because I know my potential," she said.
