Madison Keys responded to health speculation following her exit from the US Open, where she faced questions about a possible pregnancy. The 2025 Australian Open champion has struggled with her performance recently, falling out of the WTA top 20 after early exits at several tournaments, including Wimbledon. She did manage to reach the quarter-finals at the Cincinnati Open, but her momentum ended with a third-round defeat to Zheng Qinwen at the US Open.

In that match, Keys initially looked strong, winning the first set 6-1. However, Zheng fought back to win the second-set tiebreak 7-6 and ultimately triumphed 1-6, 7-6, 7-5 after coming back from a 5-0 deficit in the final set. After the match, the world No 23 reflected on her struggles, stating she felt overwhelmed and had difficulty maintaining her form, particularly under pressure.
Speculation regarding Keys' health spiraled on social media, with some suggesting she might be expecting her first child with husband and coach Bjorn Fratangelo. In response, Keys clarified during a post-US Open discussion on The Players Box podcast, saying, “If people could stop assuming and or asking me if I am pregnant, that would be super fun. I’ve had a lot of questions of if I’m pregnant and I’m not, first of all. And second of all, even if I was, that’s no one’s business.”
Keys is scheduled to compete next in the WTA 1000 China Open in Beijing, starting on September 28.
