McDaniels, a member of the All-Defensive Team, had a standout season in which he averaged 14.8 points while shooting 51.5% from the field and 41.2% from beyond the arc. He also contributed 4.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.0 blocks across 73 games. Notably, he was one of only eight players in the league to average both a block and a steal per game last season.
Originally selected as the No. 28 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers, McDaniels was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder on draft night and subsequently to the Timberwolves two days later. He has since become a key player alongside guard Anthony Edwards, the No. 1 overall pick from the same draft.
