Chelsea is seeking to finalize a contract extension for Josh Acheampong to deter interest from various European clubs. Regarded as one of the club’s most promising academy graduates, the England U21 international has gradually been integrated into the first team over the past few seasons.

Last season, Acheampong made 30 senior appearances across all competitions and has played six times already this season under new manager Xabi Alonso. Reports indicate that Alonso met with Acheampong’s representatives during the summer to emphasize the player's importance for the 2026-27 season.

The Chelsea hierarchy is now looking to formally begin contract discussions with Acheampong, who has been linked with a departure from the club for several years but is now considered an ‘untouchable.’ Currently, Acheampong’s contract runs until 2029, but with interest from clubs like Arsenal, Bayern Munich, and Liverpool, Chelsea is keen to offer improved terms to keep him. Alonso is supportive of retaining Acheampong as he aims to build a competitive squad capable of securing major titles.

In addition to negotiating with Acheampong, Chelsea is also pursuing a new central midfielder after missing a replacement for Enzo Fernandez last summer. Bournemouth's Alex Scott is a primary target, although the club faces challenges as Bournemouth reportedly does not wish to sell in the upcoming winter transfer window. Other names on Chelsea's radar include Lamine Camara and Manu Kone, as well as Martin Zubimendi, who is struggling for playing time at Arsenal.
