A highlight of the event will be the million-dollar AO 1 Point Slam, powered by Haier, which returns during Opening Week. Notable players including Carlos Alcaraz, Coco Gauff, Naomi Osaka, and current world No.1 Jannik Sinner are among the first to sign up for the competition, which pits pros against amateur qualifiers for a chance at the $1 million prize.
Tennis Australia CEO Andrew Abdo emphasized that AO 2027 aims to evolve in response to growing fan demand, stating, "The tennis will always be at the heart of the Australian Open, and we’re creating more opportunities for fans to see the world’s best players."
Abdo also noted that Opening Week continues to expand, offering unparalleled access to players and some of the best-value tennis available. Initiatives like distributing thousands of racquets to children aim to foster a lasting connection to the sport and inspire future generations of tennis players in Australia.
The 1 Point Slam aims to connect the Australian Open with tennis communities nationwide, allowing hundreds of clubs to host their own tournaments, giving players the chance to compete with top tennis stars. Tickets for the AO 1 Point Slam start at $59 and went on sale at Ticketmaster beginning at 12:00 PM AEST today.
