This creative homage recalls the Elite Eight NCAA tournament game last season when Braylon Mullins hit a three-pointer, giving UConn a 73-72 lead against Duke with less than one second left. In the aftermath of the shot, Hurley was seen approaching a referee and engaging in a head bump with the official, which raised questions among fans about whether he would face a fine or suspension.
Hurley later discussed the incident on the Triple Option podcast, explaining that he believed the referee, Roger Ayers, was coming over to celebrate the winning shot. He noted that Ayers is easy to work with during games.
No disciplinary action was taken against Hurley, and UConn continued to the National Championship Game, where they lost to Michigan 69-63. His response to the Halloween decorations has not been made public yet. However, CBS Sports' Matt Norlander reported that he shared a photo of the scarecrows with Hurley.
