Matt Fitzpatrick Claims French Open Title for Fourth Win This Year

PARIS (AP) — Matt Fitzpatrick secured his fourth victory of the year by winning the French Open on Sunday. The English golfer finished with a 1-under 70 in the final round, totaling 20 under for the tournament and besting the field, which was led by Spaniard Ángel Hidalgo, who shot a 67 and finished three strokes behind.

Local favorite Tom Vaillant, who has won twice on the Alps Tour but is still seeking his first title on the European Tour, started the day in second place but fell back to tie for third with three other players after a final round of 70.

Fitzpatrick's victories this year also include the Valspar Championship and the RBC Heritage on the PGA Tour. He additionally won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in partnership with his younger brother, Alex. Despite these successes, he expressed disappointment over his missed cut at the British Open and less-than-ideal performance during the PGA Tour's postseason.
