The team also includes British number one Cameron Norrie, Henry Patten, and Lloyd Glasspool, with matches scheduled at London’s Copper Box Arena. Fery expressed pride in representing Great Britain again, acknowledging the unique circumstances of competing at home in the World Group as they aim for a spot in the final eight. He remarked, "There might be some extra pressure, but I'm ready for it."
At 24 years old, Fery recently achieved a career-high world ranking of 36, following an unexpected run at Wimbledon, where he entered as a wildcard and became the lowest-ranked player to reach the semi-finals since Goran Ivanisevic in 2001. Before Wimbledon, he was ranked 114th.
This upcoming tie will mark Fery's first match on English soil since Wimbledon. Draper, also 24, has faced challenges due to a persistent arm injury, which has hindered his performance and caused his ranking to drop from fourth to a low of 160th over the past year. He recently experienced an emotional moment during his first game back after a long hiatus due to his injury.
The Davis Cup tie will occur over two days, on September 19 and 20, consisting of two singles matches on the first day, followed by a doubles match and two singles encounters on the second day.
Fery's recent match at the Cincinnati Masters ended in defeat, as he lost 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) to world number eight Alex de Minaur. The match faced interruptions due to rain, with Fery fighting back to force a tie-break in the second set, but ultimately, de Minaur secured the win.
