Key changes include a redefinition of shooting guidelines and the introduction of two new foul categories: disruptive fouls and flagrant fouls, replacing the previous unsportsmanlike foul designation. Disruptive fouls will now penalize contact that breaks up the flow of play without being overly severe, while flagrant fouls will penalize reckless or dangerous contact.
In addition to the new foul categories, technical fouls have also been divided into two categories. Category 1 technical fouls, which can lead to game disqualification, involve disrespectful behavior and other serious offenses. Category 2 covers less severe infractions, such as delay of game, and does not lead to disqualification.
Players can be disqualified after two Category 1 technical fouls, two flagrant fouls, or a combination of both. Coaches face disqualification from the game after accumulating two personal Category 1 technical fouls or three related to bench conduct.
Other changes include updated rules for the act of shooting, technical foul protocols, coach challenges, and the handling of fights during games. The final details ensure that EuroLeague Basketball continues to uphold high standards for play and officiating.
