The Tar Heels are entering the game on a seven-game winning streak and have held the top spot in the NCAA rankings for the second consecutive week, leading the ACC with a 3-0 record that includes two victories over ranked opponents.
Sophomore forward Bella Devey has been a key player for Carolina, leading the team with 12 goals, placing her third in the NCAA and second in the ACC. Devey recently earned her second ACC Offensive Player of the Week honor for this season after scoring a brace against No. 16 Virginia.
This meeting will be the 36th in the history of the series, where Carolina holds a 23-8-4 advantage. In their last encounter at Chapel Hill in 2023, the match ended in a 1-1 draw. Notre Dame will be the third ranked opponent UNC faces in ACC play this season.
The Tar Heels currently top the ACC with nine points and have scored 39 goals in the league, averaging a dominant performance with a goal differential of 36-6 for the season. At home, they boast a 6-1 record, having outscored opponents 31-5 at Dorrance Field.
Devey and fellow players Summer Denigan and Amari Manning lead the team with four assists each, while goalkeeper Peyton Trayer has achieved nine wins, 13 saves, and seven shutouts this season. Additionally, five Tar Heels appeared in the Preseason TopDrawerSoccer Top 100 Rankings, with Denigan ranked fourth.
The team was selected fifth in the ACC Preseason Poll, and several players, including Denigan and Stratton, are on the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List. Additionally, three players have been named to U.S. national teams heading to upcoming international tournaments.
