The 34-year-old female driver from Garden City, Kansas, is in custody, though authorities have not confirmed whether the incident was intentional. Wichita Police Captain Aaron Moses stated that she has been cooperative during the investigation.

The deceased individuals were identified as residents of McPherson, Kansas, but police noted that they were not related. The injured party included five children aged 5 to 9 and five adults, ranging from 28 to 68 years old. Moses indicated that their injuries varied from minor bruises to severe but non-life-threatening issues. Additionally, a 61-year-old woman was hospitalized with non-traumatic medical concerns.

First responders received emergency calls shortly before 3:30 p.m. regarding a vehicle driving through the soccer game. They arrived to find both the boy and the man deceased at the scene, with bystanders providing medical assistance to the injured.

The driver remained in her vehicle alongside two children, one of whom was attending a game at the complex, though on a different field.

Wichita Mayor Lily Wu expressed her sorrow over the incident on her personal Facebook page, stating, "I’m heartbroken by reports of a tragic incident at Stryker Sports Complex. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected, especially the children and families involved."

Kansas Governor Laura Kelly also released a statement expressing condolences to the victims’ families and offering state resources to assist. She thanked first responders for their efforts.

Following the incident, all events at Stryker Sports Complex have been canceled, and the Kansas State High School Activities Association announced the suspension of its scheduled flag football state championship and other matches for the weekend.

An investigation is ongoing, and the Wichita Police Department has requested anyone with video footage of the incident to submit it for review.
