In a recent appearance on John Obi Mikel’s podcast, Willian revealed that his decision to join Arsenal was heavily influenced by promises made by manager Mikel Arteta. He recalled meeting Arteta and the club officials, who assured him he would be central to their plans, stating: "We want you to be the main guy. Arteta said to me: ‘We’re going to play like this and I want you to be the main guy, I will build the team around you.’"
At 32 years old and in the final year of his contract with Chelsea, Willian decided to move to Arsenal, hoping to remain in London for three more years with his family. However, he admitted that the transition did not go as planned, saying, "To be honest I should have stayed, but at that moment I was thinking maybe the best solution is to go there, and I signed for three years there but it was not good."
Despite the disappointing experience at Arsenal, Willian noted that there are no hard feelings, and both he and the club have moved on to more positive periods in their careers.
