The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) has announced that starting in 2027, all combined WTA 1000 and ATP Masters 1000 events will feature equal prize money for both men’s and women’s competitions. This decision marks a significant milestone for the organization, which has been advocating for equal pay since its establishment in 1973.

The announcement, made on Thursday, includes prominent events such as the Italian Open, Cincinnati Open, Canadian Open, BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells, Miami Open, and the China Open. With this change, all of the WTA's largest combined events will provide equal compensation, fulfilling a pledge the WTA made in 2023.
In addition to the prize money changes, the WTA has reduced the mandatory tournament requirements for top players in 2027. Players ranked in the top 50 will now only be required to participate in four WTA 500 tournaments, down from six.
The updated WTA calendar for 2027 will span 55 events across 26 countries and territories, culminating in the WTA Finals, which will be held in its new location of Charlotte, North Carolina.
