Jannik Sinner, the world number one in tennis, has announced an early end to his season because of a knee injury. In a social media video posted on Tuesday, Sinner stated that he, along with his medical team, decided he needs treatment for his knee, declaring, "the 2026 season is officially over." This announcement comes just over a month before he was scheduled to defend his title at the ATP Finals in Turin.

Sinner, 25, reflected on his previous two seasons, which ended successfully with wins in Turin, stating, "This year is going to be way different." He emphasized the importance of prioritizing his long-term career. With the Australian Open set to begin on January 17, it remains uncertain if he will be fit to compete.

The injury could also jeopardize Sinner's position at the top of the ATP rankings. Despite battling injuries this season, he won Wimbledon in July and claimed five Masters 1000 events, maintaining an impressive record of winning all six finals he participated in. His winning percentage of 94% in 2026 is the highest of his career, surpassing his performance during the two previous seasons when he claimed two Grand Slams and the ATP Finals.

A statement from Sinner's management team indicated that he will follow a treatment plan for knee inflammation to aid his recovery before starting preparations for the 2027 season.
