In this exhibition, the Tigers utilized only six players, a decrease from their previous game against McNeese, as Wade kept his starters on the court for the majority of the contest. Despite limited depth, LSU has now defeated two teams that participated in the 2026 NCAA tournament.
Donovan Dent, a UCLA transfer, showcased his offensive skills with 21 points, 11 assists, and nine rebounds, significantly improving from his previous performance. He emphasized the importance of maintaining confidence and routine in his game. "I thought he was really engaged tonight," Wade noted, praising Dent's ability to draw fouls and make impactful plays on both offense and defense, including three steals and three blocks.
Supporting Dent were transfers Divine Ugochukwu and Abdi Bashir Jr., who contributed effectively, particularly in shooting. Bashir made 6-of-12 three-pointers, finishing with 26 points and attributing his success to getting back into his rhythm after a long absence from competitive play. Ugochukwu, although struggling at times, displayed potential in setting screens and facilitating plays for his teammates.
The effort from freshman Michael Ruzic, a 7-footer, was critical for LSU. Ruzic stood out on both ends of the court, scoring consistently and securing 13 rebounds, while effectively protecting the paint with four blocked shots. Wade commended Ruzic's versatile play, noting his ability to stretch the floor and set solid screens.
However, LSU's roster is still feeling the effects of eligibility issues affecting several players, including UCLA transfer Skyy Clark, who remains sidelined due to ongoing legal matters regarding his eligibility. Wade expressed his frustration over the situation, stating that the inability to field a complete roster hinders the team’s competition preparedness.
Defensive struggles were evident, with LSU allowing UCF to secure 17 offensive rebounds compared to their nine. This weakness, coupled with a lack of cohesive defensive strategies, helped UCF shoot 34% from three-point range. Despite these challenges, Dent noted the team's ongoing efforts to build chemistry on the court as they approach the season's start.
LSU will face Florida State in one final exhibition game in Tallahassee on October 24, 2026, before the commencement of the season.
