Jimmer Fredette Named MVP at FIBA 3x3 Phoenix Challenger

PHOENIX (AP) — Jimmer Fredette marked a successful return to competitive basketball by being named MVP of the FIBA 3x3 Phoenix Challenger on Sunday. He scored eight points in the final, helping Team Miami secure a 22-16 victory over Amsterdam to clinch the championship. Team Miami finished the two-day tournament with a perfect record of 5-0.

Fredette recently announced he would step down as managing director of the men's 3x3 program and return to playing after more than two years of retirement. In the tournament, Riley Battin led Team Miami with 38 points, while Fredette contributed 27 points, Parrott scored 24, and Henry Caruso added 17.

Looking ahead, Team Miami is set to compete in the 2026 FIBA 3x3 World Tour in Deqing, China, this coming weekend.

Fredette, the 2011 AP men’s college basketball player of the year, averaged a nation-leading 28.9 points per game during his senior year at BYU. He was a lottery pick in the NBA draft and played for parts of six seasons in the league. He has also had a significant international career, scoring over 70 points in games while in China. Fredette was part of the U.S. team that competed at the 2024 Paris Olympics but suffered an injury during the tournament, leading to his previous retirement. He now has his sights set on potentially participating in the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
