PARIS (AP) — Tommy Fleetwood has withdrawn from the French Open ahead of the third round due to illness. Organizers announced the decision via a brief message on the European Tour website, stating that Fleetwood “sadly had to withdraw due to illness,” without providing further details. The two-time major runner-up was at 6-under following his second round on Friday.

Fellow English golfer Matt Fitzpatrick was in the lead at 13-under as they approached the third round at Le Golf National, the venue that hosted the Ryder Cup in 2018. Danish golfer Jeff Winther was one shot behind Fitzpatrick before the third rounds began.
