Swiatek started strong, winning the first five games in the opening set before Jovic managed to hold serve in the sixth game. Swiatek then closed out the set on her fifth set point.

In the second set, Swiatek broke Jovic early to lead 2-0, but Jovic, the 18-year-old ranked No. 13 in the world, responded by breaking back to level the score. Jovic, who had entered the match riding a six-match winning streak after her title in Guadalajara last month, took a 3-2 lead after saving two break points in the following game. However, Swiatek broke Jovic twice consecutively to secure the victory after 1 hour and 36 minutes.

"For sure (today), I was using more of the chances that I got," Swiatek said post-match. "I was more proactive... Everything was working today."

Swiatek’s win comes with several notable statistics:

She now has nine victories against top 20 players on the WTA Tour in 2026, with eight losses. This season, she has 35 wins against players ranked outside the top 10, compared to eight losses.

Swiatek has reached her 31st WTA 1000 quarterfinal, ranking her second among active players, trailing only Aryna Sabalenka, who has 33.

She holds 36 wins against top-15 opponents in WTA 1000 events, with only Serena Williams (44) and Sabalenka (41) ahead of her.

After winning the first set, Swiatek has now won 126 of 128 WTA 1000 matches, with her only losses this year to Maria Sakkari in Doha and Magda Linette in Miami.

The match marked Swiatek's 148th main-draw win at WTA 1000 tournaments, tying her with Serena Williams. Only Sabalenka has more active wins, with 156, placing both players equal for seventh place in total wins since the WTA 1000 format was established in 2009.

In the quarterfinals, Swiatek will face No. 13 seed Elise Mertens, who beat No. 3 seed Coco Gauff earlier in the tournament. Swiatek has won both of their previous encounters.

Reflecting on her recent performance, Swiatek stated, "I feel like my game has improved. I believe what I'm doing makes sense moving forward... I'm going to push no matter what and we'll see how it goes."
