BIRMINGHAM – UAB women's basketball released its non-conference schedule for the 2026-27 season on Monday. Head coach Randy Norton expressed enthusiasm for the regional focus of the schedule, noting that many games feature in-state and neighboring opponents. He highlighted matchups against Alabama schools, including South Alabama and Alabama A&M, as opportunities to engage fans and promote women's basketball in the Southeast.

The season opens on November 4, when UAB hosts Fisk at the newly renovated Bartow Arena, marking the first-ever matchup between the two programs. UAB will then travel to South Alabama on November 7 for their 47th meeting. After returning home to face Stillman on November 11, UAB is set to play Alabama A&M on November 19, where UAB holds an 11-0 historical advantage.
During Thanksgiving week, the Blazers will compete in the Scout Jacksonville Classic, facing George Washington on November 23 and Virginia on November 24. Last year, George Washington reached the Great Eight in the WNIT, while Virginia made it to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament. This will be only the second meeting with Virginia since 2006.
UAB will host several additional non-conference games, including Mississippi Valley State on November 29, Murray State on December 1, Southern Miss on December 6, Chattanooga on December 13, Arkansas-Pine Bluff on December 15, Jackson State on December 19, and UT Martin on December 22.
UAB holds a 14-0 record against Mississippi Valley State, and last season's game against Murray State marked the first encounter since 1995. This season will also see UAB face Southern Miss for the 74th time and Chattanooga for the 39th time. The games against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Jackson State, and UT Martin will be the sixth, ninth, and seventh meetings, respectively.
Norton stated, "Our schedule provides a strong mix of home games, road challenges, and a neutral-site tournament in Florida that will test us in different environments before American Conference play begins. We believe this schedule will prepare us for the demands of conference competition while allowing our fans to enjoy exciting basketball at Bartow Arena throughout the season."
Additionally, the 2026-27 Gold Card is now available for purchase, granting access to all home events for women's soccer, men's soccer, volleyball, women's basketball, softball, and baseball (excluding American Conference and NCAA Championship events).
Contributions to sport-specific gift accounts are encouraged to support UAB student-athletes in areas such as recruiting and technology, further promoting the department's mission to succeed in the American Conference.
