Missouri State Men's Soccer Defeats South Florida 3-2, Remains Unbeaten

With this victory, the Bears extended their unbeaten streak to eight games, marking their longest stretch since a 13-match run in 2024.

Following the match, head coach Michael Seabolt expressed pride in his team's performance, stating, "We showed our goal scoring prowess, and we still need to keep thinking about how we're going to close out games. I'm super proud of the guys."

The first half ended with neither team able to score, despite both creating opportunities. Things changed in the 57th minute when Mooney scored twice in a span of just four minutes. His first goal was assisted by fifth-year player Adrián Esteban, while the second came from a cross by freshman Ben Furlong.

Mooney commented on his performance, saying, "It's great to get two goals, help the team, get the three points, and keep moving forward."

South Florida fought back in the 72nd minute with a goal from Tyler Richardson, cutting Missouri State's lead to 2-1. However, fifth-year Hugo Jinkinson responded for the Bears in the 80th minute with a decisive header from a pass by senior Daniel Souza, extending the lead to 3-1.

The Bulls pulled closer again in the 85th minute with a goal by Serigne Diallo, but the Bears held on for the win, securing their seventh victory of the season.

Missouri State finished the match with 11 shots, eight of which were on target, compared to South Florida's four shots, two on target. The Bears also had six corner kicks to the Bulls' two, and South Florida made five saves while Missouri State did not need to make any.

Looking ahead, Seabolt highlighted the upcoming match against Central Arkansas, saying, "It will be an awesome game. They're having a great season this year. We're excited for that match, so come out and join the crowd."

The next match for the Bears is scheduled for Tuesday, September 29, at 7:00 p.m. against Central Arkansas, with free admission for the entire season.
