Los Angeles Clippers interim governor John Gibson has announced that general manager Trent Redden will assume the role of interim president of basketball operations during Lawrence Frank's six-month suspension. In a video shared on YouTube, Gibson stated, "I have appointed Trent to serve as interim president of basketball operations while Lawrence Frank is away from the team."
Frank previously held the position of president of basketball operations, while Clippers governor Steve Ballmer also received a one-year suspension from all league and team activities as a result of the investigation. Following this, Gibson was named interim CEO and governor of the organization.
The investigation had delayed a trade involving Leonard moving from the Clippers to the Toronto Raptors, but the deal was finalized on September 14. During this period, Redden played a crucial role in communicating with Toronto to facilitate the trade.
Redden has been with the Clippers since 2017, after an 11-year tenure with the Cleveland Cavaliers in various roles. He started as an assistant general manager and was promoted to general manager in June 2023. As the Clippers prepare for the 2026-27 season, he will be instrumental in their decision-making process, leading a core that includes Darius Garland, Brandon Ingram, and Keaton Wagler.
