Everton's owners, The Friedkin Group (TFG), announced their openness to selling a controlling stake in the Premier League club as they seek new investments. This announcement comes less than two years after TFG acquired Everton from former owner Farhad Moshiri in December 2024, when the club was facing financial challenges and instability.

Since the takeover, TFG has facilitated Everton's move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium and has worked on improving the club's financial situation. In a statement, TFG noted that when they took over, Everton was confronted with significant financial uncertainties and challenges both on and off the pitch. The group's immediate focus has been to stabilize the club and support its development, including the completion of the new stadium.

With stability established, TFG believes it is the right time to explore the next phase for Everton. They indicated that any proposals for a stake sale would only be considered from parties capable of building on the progress made during their tenure. TFG also emphasized their commitment to supporting the club during the process.

This decision follows a summer transfer window that attracted criticism from supporters, as Everton generated substantial income through player sales but made limited additions to their squad. TFG, which also owns AS Roma and AS Cannes, has engaged investment bank Moelis & Company to advise on the stake sale process and stated that no further comments would be made while it is ongoing.
