Tom Larner, Chief Tennis Officer for the Australian Open, stated, "Having stars like Carlos Alcaraz, Coco Gauff, Naomi Osaka, and Jannik Sinner locked in to play, alongside everyday Australians qualifying via local competition and through State Championships, captures exactly what this event is about, bringing people together through tennis in an exciting and inclusive way."
Larner further emphasized the uniqueness of the 1 Point Slam, noting that it provides an opportunity for grassroots players to share the spotlight with world-renowned athletes.
The 1 Point Slam is structured as a single-elimination tournament where both professional and amateur players compete against each other. Each match consists of a single point, and the winner advances until a champion is determined.
To qualify for the event, amateur players must participate in local competitions organized by 1,000 clubs across Australia, with the two best players from each state securing spots in the official contest during the Australian Open. The 1 Point Slam is set to take place on January 13 at Rod Laver Stadium, prior to the main tournament, with the winner receiving a $1 million prize along with a trophy made from Australian silver.
In 2026, Jordan Smith from Castle Hill Tennis Club won the 1 Point Slam, defeating multiple competitors, including Sinner. Smith announced plans to invest his winnings in a home with his girlfriend. The inaugural 1 Point Slam was held during the 2025 Australian Open, with Omar Jasika as the first winner, earning a $60,000 prize.
