French tennis player Gael Monfils has been designated as a retired athlete by the sport’s drug-testing agency. The 40-year-old had initially planned to conclude his career at the Paris Masters, beginning October 31, and was scheduled to compete in a tournament in Lyon before that. However, organizers announced on Wednesday that Monfils would not be participating in Lyon due to personal reasons. Although he has not officially confirmed his retirement, he ended his Grand Slam career with a loss to Learner Tien at the U.S. Open on September 3, 2026. Monfils is reportedly set to embark on a career in wealth management with a Swiss firm.
