
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The Chattanooga Mocs achieved a decisive 5-0 victory over Western Carolina in a Southern Conference women’s soccer match on Sunday at Max Finley Stadium. Chattanooga showcased dominance from the start, outshooting the Catamounts 18-2 and limiting them to just one shot on goal. The Mocs earned six corner kicks and secured their fifth shutout of the season, marking their third consecutive clean sheet.
Paige Thomas was the standout player, recording her first career hat trick with three goals in under 22 minutes in the first half. She began the scoring in the fourth minute with a finish from a Quinn Johnson pass. Thomas added another goal in the ninth minute and then assisted Emily Betterton's goal in the 13th minute for a 3-0 lead. She completed her hat trick in the 26th minute, increasing Chattanooga’s lead to 4-0 before halftime.
Western Carolina's challenges intensified when Alexandra Grammenopoulos received a red card in the 19th minute for taking down Thomas just outside the box, forcing the Catamounts to play a player short for the remainder of the game.
Chattanooga maintained control in the second half, with Ella Attaway scoring in the 77th minute—her first goal of the season—after receiving a pass from Betha Pucek and Lilly Filler, sealing the match at 5-0.
In goal, Addie Taylor made one save during the first half, while McKenzie Allen took over for the second half, contributing to the clean sheet. Western Carolina’s goalkeepers, Amara Yetka and Elizabeth Rupert, combined for five saves.
The Mocs’ unbeaten streak now stands at nine games, featuring six wins and three ties. They will next face Wofford on Friday in Spartanburg, S.C.
