Council received a preliminary injunction from a New York judge on Tuesday, granting him an additional year of eligibility under NCAA rules. He previously earned the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year title after transferring from St. Bonaventure.
During his time at Kansas last season, Council started all 35 games, averaging 12.7 points, five rebounds, and five assists per game, with shooting percentages of 39.2% from the field and 30.8% from beyond the arc. Before joining Kansas, he played at Wagner College and Monroe College, achieving notable success.
Kansas head coach Mark Pope mentioned at Media Day that the current roster was finalized, making the potential inclusion of another player unexpected following Big Blue Madness. With Council's position as point guard, competition is stiff, as the team already features starting point guards Zoom Diallo and Alex Wilkins, alongside bench players Mason Williams and Jerone Morton.
Although Council's initial post created speculation, it was reported that the schools he mentioned were not actively recruiting him. If he secures his eligibility, he is set to face Kentucky in Chicago in just over a month.
