The decision to focus on recovery now aims to provide Sinner with the necessary time to prepare for the 2027 season. Consequently, he will miss the remainder of the 2026 campaign.
In a video posted on his Instagram account, Sinner reflected on the successful end to the previous year, where he defended his ATP Finals title in Turin against Carlos Alcaraz. However, he emphasized the importance of prioritizing his long-term health and career.
At 25 years old, Sinner has been away from competition since Wimbledon, missing key events including the US Open and the ongoing ATP 500 event in Beijing. He recently confirmed his withdrawal from the Shanghai Masters, a tournament he won in 2024 by defeating Novak Djokovic in the final.
Additionally, Sinner will not participate in the Paris Masters or the ATP Finals scheduled for November, nor will he represent Italy, the defending champion, in the Davis Cup Final 8.
While he risks losing his top ranking during this extended absence, he could potentially return in time for the Australian Open, which begins on January 17. Sinner had a remarkable 30-match winning streak earlier this year before facing an early exit at the French Open due to a second-round defeat.
