The tournament features five main-draw alternates: Diane Parry, Leylah Fernandez, Jelena Ostapenko, Cristina Bucsa, and Wang Xinyu, in addition to six qualifiers, four wild cards, and one special exempt spot. The top four seeds will receive byes into the second round.

The Ningbo Open is significant in the context of the WTA Finals, being one of the last two WTA 500 events of the season. Rybakina's victory last year helped her qualify for the year-end tournament, which she subsequently won.

The Ningbo Open, played on outdoor hard courts, began as a WTA 125 event in 2013 and 2014, before being upgraded to a WTA 250 in 2023 and finally to a WTA 500 event. First-round matches are set to commence on Monday, October 19, and the tournament will conclude with the finals on Sunday, October 25, offering 500 ranking points and a winner's prize of $185,500.
