Nadia Podoroska Advances to WTA Final by Defeating Paula Badosa

Nadia Podoroska defeated second seed Paula Badosa 6-3, 6-4 on Saturday evening, securing her place in the final of the SP Open. This marks the first WTA singles final for the 29-year-old Argentine, who is currently ranked No. 449.

Prior to this match, Podoroska had lost all four of her previous WTA semifinal appearances and had not reached one since Ningbo 2023. She spent most of the 2025 season sidelined due to injury before making her return to the tour in March. During the tournament in Sao Paulo, she also secured victories against Italian Lucrezia Stefanini (6-3, 6-4), German No. 5 seed Eva Lys (7-5, 6-2), and Dutch player Suzan Lamens (7-6(5), 3-6, 6-3).

In the final, Podoroska will face Spain's Kaitlin Quevedo, the No. 7 seed, who triumphed over French No. 4 seed Anna Blinkova 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 earlier on the same day. Quevedo, ranked No. 107, is also entering her first Tour-level final at the age of 20, having previously defeated Russian lucky loser Anastasia Tikhonova (6-0, 6-2), Brazilian wildcard Nauhany Vitoria Leme Da Silva (6-2, 6-1), and Serb Teodora Kostovic (6-3, 6-4).

Badosa, currently ranked No. 87, reached the semifinals after victories over Lithuanian lucky loser Justina Mikulskyte (6-3, 6-2), Argentine Jazmin Ortenzi (4-6, 6-2, 6-2), and American Mary Stoiana (6-4, 6-2).
