Jannik Sinner, the world No. 1 tennis player, has declared that he will not compete for the remainder of the year as he continues to address a right knee injury. Sinner has not participated in any matches since his victory over Alexander Zverev in the Wimbledon final in July, and he withdrew from the US Open due to his knee issue.

In a video message shared on Instagram, Sinner stated, "Me, together with the doctors, have decided that I need a course of treatment for my knee, which means that the 2026 season is officially over. I also need to think about my long-term career so I will do everything possible to get back 100 percent."
His absence from the tour puts his No. 1 ranking in jeopardy. He had already announced that he would miss the Shanghai Masters, and this updated announcement means he will also forfeit participation in the Paris Masters and the ATP Finals scheduled for November. Additionally, Sinner will not be able to represent Italy in the Davis Cup Final 8, where the team is the three-time defending champion.
Sinner's management team released a statement confirming that he would follow a course of treatment for knee inflammation, emphasizing that starting the treatment now is crucial for his recovery before preparing for the next season in 2027. The 25-year-old player, who has secured five grand slam titles, enjoyed a remarkable 30-match winning streak this year prior to an early exit in the French Open.
Carlos Alcaraz, a key rival of Sinner, was sidelined for four and a half months earlier this year due to a right wrist injury. Meanwhile, Alexander Zverev has clinched two of the four grand slam titles this year and is closing in on the No. 1 ranking.
