Serie A, alongside England, Spain, and Germany, is one of the leagues guaranteed four places in the Champions League. However, there is a possibility of a fifth spot being awarded, known as the European Performance Spot. This spot has recently gone to England and Spain for the 2025-26 and 2026-27 seasons, while Italy and Germany received the extra spots for the 2024-25 season, marking the first year of the tournament's expanded format to 36 teams.
The European Performance Spot is given to two nations with the highest UEFA Season Association Coefficient, which is calculated based on the performance of clubs in the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League. Points are allocated according to match outcomes, with teams earning two points for a win, one for a draw, and none for a loss. Points are halved for qualifying and playoff matches. Additionally, teams earn bonus points based on their league positions and for each round they advance in UEFA competitions.
As of the most recent update, Italy's coefficient stands at 5.214. In comparison, England leads the rankings with 6.611, followed by Portugal (6.300), Norway (6.200), Germany (6.142), and Spain (6.125). The complete ranking includes Turkey at 5.900, Azerbaijan at 5.625, Greece at 5.400, and France also at 5.214.
