COOKEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga Mocs secured a late equalizer to finish 1-1 against Tennessee Tech in their Southern Conference opener on Thursday night at Tech Soccer Field. This result brings Chattanooga’s record to 4-1-4 overall and 0-0-1 in league play, extending their unbeaten streak to six games, just one short of the program record.

This match marked Tennessee Tech’s debut in the Southern Conference, with their overall record at 3-4-3 and 0-0-1 in conference play.
"Good response from the group after being down 1-0 to find the equalizer," said Mocs head coach Gavin McKinney. "It was another match where we created more chances and controlled more territory, but we need to become more ruthless when we're on top. We're looking forward to being back home on Sunday."
After a scoreless first half, Tennessee Tech took the lead in the 70th minute with a goal from a corner kick. However, the Mocs equalized less than ten minutes later when Paige Thomas netted her second goal of the season in the 79th minute, just 89 seconds after returning to the match.
Chattanooga dominated the match, outshooting Tennessee Tech 15-5 and leading 5-3 in shots on goal, as well as earning an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks. The Mocs managed 12 of their 15 attempts after halftime.
Quinn Johnson led all players with seven shots, including one on goal, while Paige Thomas contributed three shots and scored the equalizer. In goal, Addie Taylor recorded two saves from the three shots on target by Tennessee Tech to help secure the draw.
This match marks the third consecutive draw between the two teams and the fifth overall.
The Mocs will return home on Sunday to host The Citadel in their Southern Conference home opener, with several alumni recognized during halftime. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. and admission is free.
